MIKE HARTUNG
Producer Mixer Engineer
ABOUT
Originally from Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, Mike now lives in Oslo, Norway. He started in music at the age of 10 when he got inspired to learn how to play bluegrass banjo. Banjo led to acoustic guitar, which led to electric guitar and there it stayed throughout the 80’s and 90’s.
He’s been involved in playing in and recording bands since he was 16, and had put his own 16trk studio together by the time he was 18. As his skills for recording and mixing began to solidify, so did the opportunities. He spent many of his early years working as an engineer/mixer in LA, focusing on both recording/mixing bands as well as recording and mixing orchestral music for TV and film.
Since moving to Norway in 1995, he’s been involved in engineering and mixing some of the country's most successful artists of the past 25 years, and has been credited with 28 Norwegian Grammy awards. In addition, Mike has been involved in mixing and engineering albums that have sold physical copies in the millions as well as digital streams in the billions. Music has always been a part of his life, and having lived through decades of music, his appreciation for many styles has propelled a career that spans a wide range of genres. Mike, together with his partner of over 20 years, Kåre Vestrheim, own Propeller Music Division AS studios, in Oslo, Norway, and are founding fathers of the Propeller Recordings AS record label.
